The default taxable account

Individual brokerage is one owner. The legal name from registration is the name on the account. It holds listed stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, and cash. Options, margin, futures, and FX are extra agreements. They are not included because the account exists.

Online U.S. stock and ETF commissions are $0.00. Assisted tickets are $25.00. The client center shows value, buying power, positions, working orders, and the ticket. Those numbers are paper until venues and clearing are connected.

Cash versus margin

A new brokerage account is cash. You pay for the purchase with the cash figure on the blotter. Margin is a separate agreement and a separate page. The buying-power number you may see is an estimate, not a credit line from a clearing firm.

Do not wire money to fund the account until the funding page names a bank and a clearing firm.
